Nintendo Unveils the Switch 2: A Game Changer for Gamers
4/2/20251 min read

Nintendo has confirmed that the next generation console will launch on June 5, 2025, by releasing key specifications for the Nintendo Switch 2. A substantial visual improvement over the original Switch is provided by the new device, which has a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen, 1080p resolution with HDR support, and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The Switch 2 retains the same 13.99mm thickness as its predecessor in spite of the larger screen. Also redesigned are the Joy-Con controllers, which now attach magnetically rather than sliding onto the sides and are larger. They can now operate similarly to a PC mouse thanks to a new mouse-like mode, but only in games that support it.
With the Switch 2 having 256GB of internal storage instead of the original Switch's 32GB, storage has significantly increased. Two USB-C ports are included with the system for charging and accessory use.
The Switch 2 can output games at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution when docked. The dock now has a built-in fan to control heat during intense gaming. Additionally, the dock itself has been redesigned to have a more rounded shape than it did before.
GameChat and Pro Controller
In order to enable players to mute themselves during GameChat voice calls, Nintendo is launching a C button that can open a chat menu. For simpler in-game communication, the new Pro Controller now has the same C button, rear buttons, and a headphone jack.
Instead of the original Switch's black game cards, the Switch 2 will use red ones. Although older MicroSD cards from the original Switch won't work with it, it does support MicroSD Express cards.
Nintendo first hinted at the Switch 2's backward compatibility with original Switch cartridges in January. New Joy-Con connectivity, in which controllers snap magnetically rather than sliding into position, was also alluded to in the reveal.
